VLFlemish Region

Flemish home-adaptation premium for an older resident

A specific premium exists for residents aged 65+ who adapt a home to the needs of ageing. Eligible examples explicitly include an adapted bathroom, adapted toilet and fixed support aids.

  • 2026 guidance: at least €1,200 of accepted cost per category, including VAT
  • 50% of accepted cost, with a maximum intervention of €1,250 per category
  • Owner, tenant, income, residence, invoice and property conditions apply

Important: The same invoice portion cannot receive both this premium and Mijn VerbouwPremie.

Check the current situation before relying on a renovation premium

Brussels currently states that no regional renovation-premium application can be submitted for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026. Other routes may still exist through disability support, a municipality, CPAS, mutuality or financing advice.

  • Homegrade provides free regional renovation and incentive guidance
  • PHARE may support certain disability-related home adaptations and shower, bath or toilet seats
  • Municipal and personal-support routes have their own conditions

Important: Do not start from an old RENOLUTION table or assume a previous premium still applies.

AVIQ individual material assistance

AVIQ can intervene in certain disability-related adaptations and technical aids. Its examples include toilet, shower and bath seats, with the aim of supporting autonomy at home.

  • French-speaking Wallonia residence and disability conditions apply
  • A first application is generally before age 65
  • After 65, the disability concerned must be shown to have arisen before 65

Important: Contact AVIQ before buying equipment or starting relevant work; an assessment and prior request may be necessary.

Pflegegeld and local guidance

The German-speaking Community manages a monthly care allowance for older people. It is intended to strengthen autonomy and help people live independently, but it is not automatically a bathroom-project grant.

  • Personal care need and regional conditions are assessed
  • The support is paid monthly when granted
  • Ask the Ministry which adaptation or disability routes fit the situation

Important: Confirm the current conditions directly with the Pflegegeld team before treating this income as part of a works budget.

VAT

Could the work qualify for 6% VAT?

Belgian federal guidance says renovation or repair work to a qualifying private home at least ten years old may receive the reduced 6% rate. Conditions apply, including how work and materials are invoiced.

Is there an allowance for reduced autonomy?

People over 66 with health difficulties and limited income may qualify for a regional allowance for help to older people. It is personal financial support, not automatic reimbursement of renovation invoices.

Prepare a file that makes the need visible

Public services decide entitlement. A clear technical file can make their assessment easier and reduce ambiguity about what the quote contains.

    Describe the daily difficulty

    Note the movement that is unsafe or exhausting—not only the product you think you need.

    Ask the right authority early

    Check region, age, income, disability or care conditions and whether prior approval is required.

    Obtain an itemised proposal

    Separate the adaptation, fixed aids, sanitary work and optional finishes where practical.

  4. 04

    Keep the evidence

    Save official decisions, assessments, photos, quotations, invoices and proof of payment.

    Plan for timing

    Administrative review can take time. Do not assume support will be paid until the competent service confirms it.
